Senseless

Not sure why someone would bring himself to commit suicide. Have never been able to understand the senselessness of it. Don't people wonder how their actions will affect other people, especially those who love and care for them? My sister's father-in-law committed suicide this morning in Myrtle Beach. With a gun. Mark, my BIL, got the phone call. Madonna, my sister, found out while at school. Their two sons found out while at school. What news to find out that your father, father-in-law, grandpa didn't think enough of himself or his life or the people who love him to do this. Now my sister and her family have to drive to SC (no flights out from Pitts) and deal with the mess, and I mean MESS with a capital M. Not only funeral mess, but family mess and blood and guts mess. (I know that's gross to think about, but what they don't show you on TV is that someone has to clean it up.) That family is quite dysfunctional, complete with disowning each other, not speaking for years to each other, and all kids of crap (there are other brothers, too). My 18 year old nephew, Zack, is the executer of the will. What responsibilities he'll have to deal with all this. Please pray for Mark, Madonna, Korey, and Zack as they deal with the death of Mr. Mullin. No one should have to experience this! The death of a loved one is hard enough, but the tragic, senseless death of a 70-something man is incomprehensible.

Welcome Spring!

Here's a darling picture of Grammie Annie enjoying the beautiful weather out on the new patio. What a gorgeous day! I LOVE SPRING! I did yard work yesterday, and today after working at Stitches (not a single customer came in!) I took Buckeye for a walk. Okay, I confess, HE took ME for a walk. I even played a little H-O-R-S-E with Ben! There was a situation with Colin and his friend, Nick, that I will tackle journaling tomorrow. Suffice it to say that being the parent of a teenager is challenging! I know, I know, "This too shall pass!"

Thanks, John, for sharing the picture with us!

The Ultimate Gift

I went to see the new movie "The Ultimate Gift" with my friend, Becky, this evening. I cannot recommend this movie enough! Abigail Breslin (the little girl from Little MIss Sunshine) was so cute in it as a girl who has leukemia, and a guy named Drew Fuller played the lead. James Garner, one of my favorite actors, plays a dead rich man who, in a series of DVD clips made before his death, sends his grandson on a mission to find 12 gifts in search of the ultimate gift. It was so good! Please go see it! It's based on the book The Ultimate Gift by Jim Stovall.

More movies like this need to be made and seen.

Check it out! http://www.theultimategift.com/home.php?cid=4294967295&cat=home

Wasted Day?

Today I had no school. I had so many plans to accomplish stuff (like clean, scrapbook, embroider), and I did practically nothing except watch a movie, finalize Cub Scout camp and take a long nap. So have to ask myself, was it a wasted day, or was it a well deserved day of rest?

Had to share this cute picture of Ben one of the dads took at last week's game. Tomorrow's game is at 9 AM, and it's supposed to be cold again. Where is spring??

Lacrosse

Ben has never shown interest in playing sports until last fall. He played Upwards basketball and really enjoyed it. He had his awards ceremony today. He also decided to play lacrosse this winter/spring. It's a VERY expensive sport! (I think I am up to $300 including registration as well as outfitting him.) Today was his first game. They are playing in West Chester, about 1/2 hour away, since we don't have enough kids to have a league here. It was cold, rainy, and windy this morning at 8:30! Ben did a great job considering he's never played before and has only had 2 weeks' worth of practices. The coaches were great, always helping the boys learn what they need to do. Unfortunately we have a handful of 9 AM games (some are 10:30 AM), and hopefully they will be warmer than this morning! I'll have to remember to throw in a blanket or two just in case!
